Welcome!

Welcome and thank you for viewing my online portfolio. Here is where you will find my academic journey, education philosophy, and portfolio. My specialty is education/instructional technology. I am an educator with 20+ years of experience in K12 and Adult Education. I am most passionate about educating individuals (both young and old) in the area of technology, how it can enhance and promote learning and serve as a conduit for positive social change!

Why?

WHY is EDUCATION so important? I believe the more you know the more you grow! Education affords us with the opportunity to broaden our depth of knowledge while opening doors to new ideas and experiences.

WHY is TECHNOLOGY so important? Technology is a vital part of the world we live in. It is a powerful tool that has changed the way we do life. These changes are seen through social media, mobile devices, and assistive technology designed to make ways of living better for others. Technology, when used positively and responsibly, has the propensity to change many aspects of our life for the better.

WHY is COMMUNITY so important? As an educator, I have embraced over the years, that what I do goes beyond me. My education, my experience and what I’ve obtained is not merely a framed degree or certificate to be showcased in my office. Instead, it is a milestone achieved to make a difference in my community and society. I see what I do not just as a career, but as part of my mission and ministry in life. I’m passionate about educating others and I’m passionate about seeing others succeed but, most of all I’m fulfilled whenever I have the opportunity to impart knowledge and share resources for the greater good of community.

Teaching Philosophy

My beliefs about education are with education comes opportunity and with opportunity comes the chance to make a difference in the lives of those I teach. Each learner is unique and because of this uniqueness, I believe that multiple teaching techniques are essential in addressing student learning styles. I am an advocate for fostering a collaborative learning environment with students. Collaborative learning environments provide students exposure to new perspectives with the potential to gain new knowledge. As an educator who specializes in instructional/educational technology, I believe there are 3 critical elements that will produce a successful learning experience:

  • Students should be afforded the opportunity to receive a quality education regardless of race, religion, socio-economic background and the like.
  • Students should be introduced to the latest technology available and be educated on how to use these technologies responsibly and for the greater good.
  • Students should be encouraged to see their academic journey not just for the goal of being able to say, “I have my degree” but to look beyond the degree, discover their purpose, and determine how they will use the degree to positively impact their community.
